Why did I decide to go natural?
1. To try something new
2. To save money from going to the hair shop every 2 weeks
What did I learn by going natural?
1. It’s A LOT of work
2. Sponge rollers are BAD NEWS!!
3. There are so many different products for different types of hair – must try so many different things to see what works best for me.
4. How to flat twist
5. About protective styling
6. I could never make my hair look exactly the same, even if I prepped it the same
What did I lose by going natural?
MY HAIR!!!!! 🙁
I have no idea what I did in 4 months…or if my hair just couldn’t take it. However, I’m putting away all of my natural hair products, and I’m going back to the hair shop so that my hair will grow back. I’m done with natural hair. Bring on the heat. I would have done a video, but you may have seen me shed a tear.
I’ll admire you natural beauties from afar. Now, to planning some hair growth…
RIP Natural Nik.
RIP Long hair.

So sorry for your loss! I too have accidentally pulled some hair out that was knotted up. Nik, its a difficult commitment and our hair is more fragile in this state so more care than I ever planned on taking with my hair has to be taken but I too am a new Natural and I am commitment so far. I watch a lot of Youtube and have tried several different products. (I am committed to using them up but haven’t found my ideal product yet) LOL. But I am learning. I have learned that even with the most proficient natural hair vloggers, their hair doesn’t always come out the same way twice either. I just go with it for now. I am going into professional braids and twists for now to give me a break but I am trying to work out so straight isn’t a cost effective option. However, I said all that to say I feel your pain.
Madeline, I appreciate that you feel my pain. This natural hair thing is no joke! I was mostly using Miss Jessie’s & also tried a couple samples of other products. YouTube is definitely helpful! I’m considering braids/twists now, too. I gotta figure out what I’m gonna do with my hair next cuz I want it to grow back!! 🙁 Good luck to you & your natural hair! Thanks for reading!!
I am a fan of women that rock natural hair! I think it’s a beautiful look! #TeamNaturalHair
But I also know nothing about hair stuff for women, either way I think your still a beautiful woman. It’s crazy but Im just know learning about what yall go through and I have a daughter….ya learn something new everyday! Great post
Thank you, Darrell! Yeah, we definitely learn something new everyday. It was an experience being #TeamNaturalHair; some days it was great, other days it was frustrating. Altogether it was fun to try, we’ll see if I ever make it back. Thanks for reading!!
Hey cousin… Going natural is lifestyle change– trust me!! It no way near cheaper, but the benefits are worth it. This is the only style I have been committed to for longer than a month :0)
I didn’t know you were natural, too!! Yeah, those products are expensive!! I used mostly Miss Jessie’s & then tried some other samples. I gave it 4 months, but from the evidence, I’m not sure it’s for me. I’m just super disappointed that the growth I worked so hard to get is ALL GONE!!! My hair is shorter now than when I started. 🙁
Hey Nik!
I did a little research and found this article that may explain the breakage:) Check it out….http://www.healthytextures.com/articles/20110711_1/print
