So, I was skimming through my Facebook news feed, and came across an article about this designer named, Rick Owens. I admit, I was unfamiliar with him, so I checked out the article, and the wheels in my fashion show production mind have begun turning. New inspiration!!! Talk about breaking the mold!!!
Rick Owens’ Spring Summer 2014 Paris Fashion Week show was AMAZING!!!!! Mr. Owens truly blew my mind of what I expected the stereotypical Paris Fashion Week show to be with:
~ Down-home, southern-style step show choreography
~ Beautiful black models of all colors, shapes, sizes, and hairstyles, sporting full-on, mean mug, Cleo from Set if Off thizz faces while stomping in their tennis shoes
~ Awesome stair staging, with dramatic entrances/exits
~ Concert-style lighting
This show wasn’t about the normal, societal standard of beauty, or fashion. There were no 6 foot, size 0, high cheek-boned models strutting the runway in sky-high stilettos with a face covered in flawless makeup, and carefully structured hairstyles. There was no white “runway” with a slew of models coming & going in different garments. Mr. Owens took these unconventional beauties, with beautiful big eyes, thick thighs, kinky hair, large lips, wide noses, big busts, and sista girl attitudes; and not only did he embrace them, but selected them to be the faces & bodies of this latest fashion collection. What made this great, in my opinion, is that it wasn’t a gimmick used on a platform such as BET’s Rip the Runway, it was a unique, creative performance shown during PARIS FASHION WEEK!!! Paris, y’all!! I loved it!!
I wouldn’t want to see this all of the time, however, it was a refreshing change of pace, and I greatly appreciated it; seeing as though I’m a runway model who appreciates choreo, and carries my own set of HBT (hips, butt & thighs). 😉

P.S. thanks to Ced for posting this article & expanding my mind!!!
